Heartbreaking May 24, 2008

There is something heartbreaking about innocence. There is something heartbreaking about looking through the eyes of a child and finding out they have gone through more than they should. There is something heartbreaking about people confiding in you having no idea about your in-capabilities.There is something heartbreaking about people getting hungry despite sweating for months. There is something heartbreaking about people thinking you can not change.

And, there is definitely something heartbreaking about failing to prove them wrong.

The news on hunger couldn’t have come in a worse time. For the country at the political and economic level and for me at the personal level. About two weeks ago I did a paper on body image and eating disorders. The professor commented the following ”I would have liked to read more about eating disorders in Ethiopia considering there is  real hunger in the country”.

I found that very prejudiced and told my professor so. Got my apologies, turn on my BBC news and came to find out about another round of hunger in Ethiopia.

There is something heart breaking about failing to prove them wrong!

That is a heart breaking post, habeshaviews! True too. Nothing more sad than feeling your hands tied when innocents suffer. That’s how i feel every time the guy upstairs starts screaming viciously on his children and when i see how ill “woyalas” get treated on minibuses (as somebody said before “keMeImint betach”). But nothing is compared to the suffering of children. It’s one of the reasons that made me an atheist, or atleast an agnostic. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it, why alem’s face is SO jingurgur?! I know i’m part of the blame as well as the solution…somehow! One child a day perhaps?!
