Small hearts -Big hearts October 8, 2010

We are driving back from one of the travels . We usually leave early in the morning and pack some bananas and sandwiches for lunch. Everyone is pretty hungry by the time we made it back to the closest decent restaurant. We are having the usual arguments:  who will eat what and everyone should have their own orders and no one is allowed to share …etcetera ..etcetera

Usually am the quietly listening person in some corner of the car. Discussions over sharing took me back to what happened on the field.

It hasn’t rained in three years. The last green leaf you see is miles and miles away.  Most of them have sent their children to near by countries. The children work in small jobs and send back some money. A kilo of sorghum costs 6 birr and that’s all the family can afford. It’s just too little to make a flour out of so they eat it roasted. That’s the only thing they will have all day.

As I was talking to the person she started eating on the roasted sorghum and invited me  ” Can we share this together?”

I love Vanity T’s especially humourous ones.  Never owned one though. Partly , cause I couldn’t afford the ones I liked. My sister owns one with a Stewie Griffin quote ”  When the world is mine, your death shall be quick and painless”

Here are some of my favorite graphics on T-Shirts

ETH New Year- the ugly , the bad and the good September 13, 2010

  • Dead- lost someone close to the family on the eve of the New Year.

  • Cooked – since everyone had to leave for the mourning, I had to do most of house work. I did the ‘cutting a chicken into twelve parts’ deal. In the old days, this by itself would have gotten me a husband 🙂

  • Got stood up – at a lunch get together. Showed up and had spaghetti Bolognese by myself.
I spoke to the colleague who acted like nothing was wrong. Made me feel like punching a wall.
  • Slept – Like a baby on Sunday.
  • Heard- from a friend I haven’t spoken to in along time.
Was great to hear Mil giggling over details of life I failed to share.
I wish I knew how to make fun of such hard times.

Happy new year to you all !
